Every race needs volunteers to operate safely and to provide a great experience for the athletes. Imagine running for an hour – or four – and having nobody to help guide the way, hand you a cup of water, keep traffic or spectators out of the way, or be there to help if you need it.
Some volunteer positions are critical to being able to let the race start, such as course marshals and aid stations. Other positions are critical to ensure the athletes are taken care of at the finish line, such as handing out food, handling bag check, or placing that hard-earned finisher medal around an athlete’s neck! No matter what – the athletes and race organizers are grateful for your support.
What’s in it for you? Lots of thank you’s! Inspiration! Time outdoors! Fun with friends of family! High school volunteer hours! A new t-shirt! That feeling inside that you’ve participated in something bigger than yourself and given back to the run community. You get out what you put in – as with anything worthwhile in life.
